Overview

Beyond the Annapurnas the rain stops and Mustang begins — an arid, wind-carved plateau that stayed a forbidden kingdom until 1992. Sky caves pock the cliffs, monasteries hold 15th-century murals, and the walled capital of Lo Manthang still looks exactly as it did five centuries ago.

  • Walled city of Lo Manthang
  • Chhoser sky caves
  • Restricted-area permit access
  • Kali Gandaki gorge, the world's deepest
  • Tiji festival option in May
