After fifteen years of gear checks in Thamel, this is the list we hand every client the night before they fly to Lukla.
The single most common mistake is over-packing. Your porter carries a strict weight limit, and anything above it is redistributed to you at 4,000 m.
Bring a down jacket rated to -15°C, two merino base layers, one softshell, and a rain shell that genuinely seals. Everything else is negotiable.
Buy the small things in Kathmandu. Duffels, liners, trekking poles and thermals are excellent value in Thamel and save you baggage fees.
